Craig Babineaux has been a CPA with a public accounting practice for nearly 40 years. “The nature of my practice then and now,” Craig explains, “has always been a collaborative planning process with my clients. Even when I was not serving formally as a financial planner, it was one of the central roles of my practice as I helped clients with their business planning and taxes issues.”
Wanting to take his career to the next level, Craig invested the time and effort to become a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and earn his Personal Financial Specialist certification. At Darnall Sikes Wealth Partners, Craig still works as a CPA, doing tax planning and reviewing tax returns for the majority of his financial advisory clients. “Understanding clients’ tax returns and helping them with financial planning, I have access to their entire financial picture, a perspective that not every financial planner has. I’m proud of the fact that most of my financial planning clients have been tax clients for quite a while.”
At a basic level, my job is to keep clients between the guardrails — doing the things they need to do to achieve their goals. Our clients are very smart and perhaps some could be do-it-your-selfers, but they recognize even the best athlete needs a coach. Left on their own, clients just don’t or can’t focus on financial planning for various reasons. It’s the actual implementation and monitoring of the plan that matters — and I see a big part of what I do as ‘closing the loop’ for my clients.
