Financial Advisor

MORGAN CITY

Robert Marcell has more than 30 years of experience in financial services — and running through it all is a deep desire to help people take control of their financial lives.

After college, he took a job with Patterson State Bank, starting as a commercial loan collection officer. He stayed at the bank for 23 years, eventually becoming its CFO, a role in which he also established the bank’s first investment services center. “My experience working on the banker’s side of the table gives me awareness of a variety of financial issues and decisions, and insights that not all advisors have. For example, I can often identify certain financial risks my clients don’t see, and then work with them to address those risks.”

Recently Robert has begun a new area of specialization, becoming registered as an advisor in a special program instituted by the NFL Players Association. The program gives young players — many of whom have little or no financial understanding — access to knowledgeable, registered financial advisors who help them make key financial decisions early on, so that when their playing career ends (which comes all too quickly for most), they will be well-positioned financially.

My favorite aspect of what I do with all my clients is the one-on-one interaction. I really enjoy sitting down with clients, business owners and their families, and learning about their backgrounds and financial issues. I sometimes explain to people that what I’m really doing is serving as their personal risk manager — managing the financial risks in their lives.

— Robert Marcell
